Soft Tissue Therapy in Winchester

Helping you move better and feel better

About Us

Welcome to Yew Hill Therapy, my name is Angela Kendall and I am a Soft Tissue Therapist based in Winchester. I run the clinic from my own treatment room in Oliver’s Battery, which is easily accessible from Winchester, Romsey, Andover, Southampton and the surrounding areas.

I studied Soft Tissue Therapy, a Level 5 Diploma at The London School Of Sports Massage and more recently I have gained my Bowen credentials from Assessment Led Bowen Technique, a BTPA approved course based in Devon. Both courses have led me to be able to assess and treat a person according to their individual needs.

My Soft Tissue Treatments are centred around Bowen Therapy, but where necessary I can apply other Advanced Soft Tissue Techniques such as Soft Tissue Release, Muscle Energy Techniques and Positional Release.

What is Soft Tissue Therapy?

Soft Tissue Therapy is for everyone, you can be an elite athlete, or a couch potato! Young or old it does not matter, there are no harsh manipulations, it is safe for all ages.

The term Soft Tissue Therapist simply means that I deal with the treatment and rehabilitation of any muscles, tendons and/or ligaments. There are no joint manipulations, however the aim of the treating the soft tissues is to give you a better range of motion throughout your joints.

Any treatment of the musculoskeletal system can have an influence on other systems of the body such as the nervous system, lymphatic system, fascial system and digestive system to name a few! This means that Soft Tissue Therapy can be an effective treatment for IBS, stress and anxiety, respiratory issues as well as joint pain and sporting injuries.

What to Expect

My Soft Tissue treatments are easily conducted through clothing so it’s best to come dressed in something lightweight and loose, such as a lightweight pair of joggers, shorts or leggings and a t-shirt. If possible, no jeans please.

After you have laid down on the treatment bed, I will wiggle your legs a little to remove any compensation patterns and then start assessing where your primary point of restriction might be. Following this, all you need to do is lie and relax on the bed, whilst I set about releasing tension throughout the body.

My Soft Tissue Treatments are completely holistic and treat the whole body, this means that if you come in with neck pain, I will absolutely treat your neck, but if I also find tension in the calves, I will treat them too.

Common Questions

  • How many treatments will I need?

Everyone is different and the response to a Soft Tissue Therapy session can be immediate, or you may require 3 - 6 sessions. The number of sessions is very much determined by:

    • The type of condition affecting the client

    • The severity of their condition

    • The length of time that they have had the condition

    • Lifestyle factors (diet, exercise, pressure of occupation and family)

    • Whether the condition is a single condition or whether the client suffers from multiple conditions.

After an initial course of treatment many people choose to check in monthly for a top-up, to maintain their general wellbeing or as a scheduled 'de-stress'. Other clients will get back in touch if they start to feel aches or pains, arranging treatments as and when they need them.

  • What are your fees?

Soft Tissue Therapy sessions for individuals last approximately 45 minutes to one hour and cost £45 per session. I always discount the first appointment to allow you a chance to experience the treatment at the slightly reduced cost of £35.

Please note that if you want to cancel an appointment, I require 24 hours’ notice; otherwise you will still need to pay for any sessions missed.

I accept payment by card or cash.

  • Can you diagnose my health problems?

Soft Tissue Therapists cannot diagnose or cure, but like any hands-on therapy we are able to get a feel for which areas of the body are holding tension – I am always happy to give you full feedback on what I find during a treatment session.

  • What issues can Soft Therapy Treat?

Soft Tissue Therapy, specifically Bowen frequently offers pain and emotional relief where other modalities have failed. It is appropriate for newborn babies through to the elderly and infirm.

    • Muscular and skeletal problems in neck, shoulder, jaw, hip, knees, ankles and back, including sciatica, whiplash, arthritic pain, fibromyalgia etc.

    • Problems with posture and body alignment

    • Migraine and recurring headaches

    • Additional help for respiratory problems including bronchitis and asthma

    • Sports injuries - treatment and prevention

    • Work-related injuries

    • Hormonal issues, pregnancy, PMS and menopause

    • Stress management, ME, fatigue and sleep problems

    • General relaxation and body balancing

Myofascial cupping is where a plastic cup is placed against the skin with suction to remove the air pressure within the cup, the skin and superficial muscle and connective tissues are sucked into the cup, pulling apart sticky tissue and bringing blood into damaged areas.

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology taping is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation.

Hot Stone Sports Massage

Hot Stone Sports Massage utilises the warmth of volcanic basalt rock with the deep tissue work you are already used to with Sports Massage - it really is a winning combination as the warmth can relax muscles faster than normal massage.
